BIOSCIENCES RESEARCH IMAGES JOURNAL (B.R.I.J)

INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

COMPLYING WITH THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS WILL HELP US TO COMPLETE THE REVIEW AND PUBLISH THE PAPER RAPIDLY

  • An Author Agreement Form (download from link) should be completed for each manuscript submitted.
  • Contributions should be prepared on paper with margins set at 2.2 cm on all sides (TOP/BOTTOM/left/right).
  • Use Book Antiqua Font Size12.
  • Lines should be double spaced throughout the manuscript.
  • Articles published in B.R.I.J will rely more on visuals, graphics and images to communicate rather on written text. Therefore authors must carefully obtain and select high quality images to be used for publication. Remember: A good photo is worth more than a thousand words!
  • Before you start your work, plan your research well to ensure you obtain enough photographs showing different steps of the research or experiments that you are carrying out. You need to have access to a good digital camera. For this purpose, photographs taken using your phone camera are not acceptable since they have low resolution.
  • Additional brief text will be required to explain what each photo (or a sequence of photos) is showing.
  • All data presented should be carefully analyzed (indicate methods and software used) and presented using a suitable combination of tables and graphs.
  • Your manuscript should be divided into the following sections:
    • Title (not more than 18 words long).
    • Authors names, Institutions, and addresses. Include mailing address (P.O. Box or B.P.). Include also the email address and cellphone details of the corresponding author.
    • Abstract. The abstract should provide the following information in the shown sequence. It should be maximum 400 words long:
      • 1. Background (1 sentence stating the research problem) followed by a statement of the objective of the study.
      • 2. Brief description of the research approach (what activities were carried out and how they were carried out?; mention briefly the design, treatments, location of study, when study was done, etc). Describe what type of data were collected; how data were recorded; and analysed?
      • Description of the results obtained and brief interpretation of the results. Mention the potential application and impact of your results.
      • Key words: provide 4 – 6 search words that can locate your study in a web search.

After the abstract the manuscript should be developed as follows:

    • Introduction:
    • =Provide a brief text to explain the research problem. The important part is to show the research problem as seen visually. For example if your study is on a plant disease, the introduction section should show diseased fields, diseased individual plants, the symptoms of the disease, the effect on yield, e.g. damaged fruits, reduced number of fruits, changes in colour of plant organs, etc. each photo should be accompanied by a brief title. Provide a brief description of the literature published in the last 5 years.
    • = End the introduction section by stating the objectives of your study.
    • Materials and methods:
    • =Combine text and photographs to illustrate the steps of your research. For example, if you sprayed the diseased plants when they have 2, 4, 6, and 8 leaves, take a photograph of the plants at each of these stages and show the spray being applied.
    • =use images to also show the data observed and recorded. For example, if you assess the amount of disease on leaves using a scale of 1 – 10, take photos of leaves with varying levels of infection to illustrate the different scales.
    • =In addition to the images presented, data recorded should be analysed and presented in tables or graphs, supported with the necessary text, but this should be brief.
    • Results and Discussion:
    • As much as possible provide photographs that show the positive outcomes of your research. For example, if after spraying the plants the disesae is controlled, you should take a photograph comparing the healthy leaves and to the diseased leaves of the plant which was not sprayed.
    • Provide brief discussion of the results compared to other previous research in that topic. Remember to show how your results can be applied in the actual world.
    •  References:
    • =Cite only the most relevant recent literature available on your research subject. Avoid referring to information which is not formally published. Do not quote >>Anonymous<<
    • =Citations within the manuscript text should only indicate author surname followed by year of publication, e.g. (Jones, 2005).
    • If two authors, indicate both, e.g. (Jones & James, 2005);
    • if more than two authors, e.g. (Jones et al., 2005).
    • Citations in the text should observe chronology (oldest first), then alphabetical orde.
